GCAA CAR-66 exam preparation (UAE)
The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority licenses aircraft maintenance engineers under CAR-66, a regulation built on EASA Part-66: the same numbered modules, the same licence categories and the same 75% pass mark. The technical module banks here are direct preparation for the CAR-66 basic examinations.

Question format
The Part-66 modules, question for question
CAR-66 Appendix II sets the number of multiple-choice questions for each module and category, and for most modules it matches EASA: 32 for Mathematics, 52 for Physics and 140 for Module 11A at B1, for example. Every question has three options, you get a nominal 75 seconds per question, and calculators are not allowed.
Essays are still part of the exam
EASA dropped the essays from Modules 9 and 10 in 2024, but GCAA CAR-66 still sets them: two essay questions in Module 7 and one each in Modules 9 and 10, written by hand in 20 minutes each and marked against key points, with 75% needed to pass. The question banks here prepare you for the multiple-choice part; practise the essays separately.
Where you sit the exams
Basic examinations are run by the GCAA or by a CAR-147 approved training organisation. A failed module can be retaken after 90 days, or after 30 days following tailored retraining at a CAR-147 organisation, with up to three consecutive attempts. Passed examinations must be within 10 years of your licence application.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use EASA Part-66 questions for GCAA CAR-66?
Yes, for the technical modules. CAR-66 follows the Part-66 module structure and syllabus, so Mathematics, Physics, the electrical and electronic modules, aerodynamics, structures and engines are the same core knowledge.
What is the GCAA CAR-66 pass mark?
75% for the multiple-choice part of each module and sub-module. Each essay answer must also cover 75% of the required key points. Penalty marking is not used.
I hold an EASA or UK licence. Do I have to sit every module again?
Usually not. CAR-66 lists licences from the UK and many European countries as convertible to a GCAA licence after a GCAA Aviation Legislation examination; licences from some other states also need a Human Factors examination. Check the current conversion list with the GCAA.
