HKAR-66 exam preparation (Hong Kong)
Hong Kong's Civil Aviation Department licenses aircraft maintenance engineers under HKAR-66, which is developed with reference to EASA Part-66. In 2025 the CAD began adopting EASA's revised syllabus and exam format, so HKAR-66 and EASA are now closer than ever.

Question format
Following EASA's updated modules
HKAR-66 Issue 3 Revision 5 (1 March 2025) brought in the new syllabus for Modules 7, 9 and 10. Since 1 September 2025, Modules 9 and 10 are multiple choice only, with no essay questions, while Module 7 keeps its two essay questions. That is the same format EASA uses.
Exams at the CAD
Examinations are conducted by the CAD, and some by HKAR-147 approved organisations. You get 75 seconds per multiple-choice question, need at least 75% to pass, and once passed a module is held in credit for 10 years.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use EASA Part-66 questions for HKAR-66?
Yes. HKAR-66 is developed with reference to EASA Part-66 and has adopted its revised syllabus in phases, so the technical modules are the same core knowledge.
What is the HKAR-66 pass mark?
Candidates need at least 75% in any examination to pass.
Are there still essays in Modules 9 and 10?
